"When I’m in New York, I just want to walk down the street and feel this thing, like I’m in a movie."

Viimeisenä päivänä NYC:issä saimme koko päivän vapaaksi ja aamu alkoi ihanasti hitaasti nautitulla, kaksi tuntia kestäneellä aamupalahetkellä. Aamupalan aikana ehti sataa kaatamalla niin pysty- kuin vaakasuunnassakin, mutta kahvilasta poistuessamme aurinko paistoi täydeltä taivaalta. Ditte oli käynyt NYCissä kahdesti ja minä kerran, mutta päätimme shoppailun sijasta ottaa hop on, hop off-bussikierroksen, jotta voitaisiin ihastella mahdollisimman paljon koko kaupunkia ja kätevästi. Ensinnäkin, mihin jätin taas "ei turistijutuille"-asenteeni? Ja toiseksi, eihän siinä ihan niin käynyt, kun oltiin ajateltu.

On our last day in NYC we got ourselves a day off and we started it with a lovely, slow breakfast. After that, we decided to go and take a hop on hop off-tour, even both of us has visited NYC before- Ditte twice and I once. We just thought that it would be the easiest way to have a look of the whole Manhattan and we could easily do some shopping and walking at the same time. Once more, I'm amazed where have I left my "no to tourist stuff"-attitude? And second of all, the whole tour and the nice idea behind that didn't go exactly as we planned.

 Bussikierros alkoi Bryant Parkin kulmilta ja kierrettiin ensiksi Chrysler Buildingin ohi, Rockefeller Centeriltä Central Parkiin ja sieltä Times Squarelle. Siitä jatkoimme 5th avenueta alas Empire State Buildingille ja korealaisten kortteleiden kautta Flatironille. Ditte ja minä oltiin suunniteltu jäävämme SoHon pysäkillä pois ja suunnitelmana oli kierrellä SoHossa, Greenwich Villagessa ja kävellä Little Italyn läpi Chinatowniin ja hypätä takaisin bussin kyytiin loppukierrokselle. Bussista pois jäätyämme kello oli 12 ja ensiksi suuntasimme tsekkaamaan SoHon Broadwaylta löytyvät H&M:t (ammattisairaus, pakko tsekata kaikki vastaantulevat). Kollegoille voin kertoa, että urbaanilegenda siitä, että SoHon liikkeessä on "sisääntulokäytävällä" 20 nukkea, jotka vaihdetaan joka päivä, ei ole totta!  Molemmat myymälät olivat hyvin pieniä ja ahtaita ja matalia ja kuten kaikki muutkin muut myymälät NYCissä, hyvin sotkuisia! Myymälöiden myyntiluvut on niin hulluja, että olisi hauska tietää, miten paljon enemmän ne myisivät jos myymälät eivät olisi sotkuisia.

The tour started from Bryant Park, and we drove by Chrysler Building, Rockefeller Center, Central Park and Times Square. From there we headed to midtown to Empire State Building, and trough Korean block to the Flatiron and all the way down to SoHo. We decided to hop off on Broadway and have a walk in SoHo and in Greenwich Village, and then walk down trough Little Italy to Chinatown and hop back on the bus there. So little we knew back then! First we of course had to head to see both SoHo's H&M stores (always the same thing in every city) and colleges, I have something to tell you! If you have heard an urban legend, that in SoHo-store they have 20 mannequins on a hallway right from the entrance, that they change everyday, it really is an urban legend and not true at all! Mainly both of the stores were really thight, small, low and messy. Of course the stores makes a lot of money (the numbers are crazy), but mainly all of them are also so so messy!

SoHosta kävelimme Villageen ja matkan varrella bongasimme ihania pieniä sisustusliikkeitä ja paikallisia designerputiikkeja ja parin tunnin päästä Villageen päästyämme olikin jo lounasaika. Söimme samassa italialaisessa raflassa, joka oli oma lemppari edelliseltä reissulta ja jälkkäriksi haimme pienet pussit irttareita ruotsalaisesta karkkikaupasta, jossa valistin myyjää, että puolet irttareista olivat suomalaisia (mm. Fazeria) ja miksi kauppa mainostaa karkkeja ruotsalaisina kerta ne eivät ruotsalaisia ole!

From SoHo we walk into Village and stopped by on all this cute little home decoration stores and designer stores on our way there. By the time we finally ended up there, we went to have an early dinner on this nice Italian restaurant, that I also visited last time while I was in NYC. After that, we had some candies for dessert from this Swedish candy store, where I told to the sales advisor that they shouldn't advertise themselves as a Swedish one, cause they also had Fazer for instance!! Home country proudness- and love was maybe coming trough too much. :D

Yrittäessämme tehdä matkaa Little Italyyn pysähdyimme taas kerran SoHon kaupoissa ja ihastelimme kauniita rakennuksia irttareista nauttien ja päätimme sittenkin kävellä takaisin Broadwaylle bussin kyytiin, sillä kello oli yli kuusi ja olimme kävelleet klo 12 asti. Bussipysäkille päästyämme huomasimme lipuistamme, että viimeinen bussi menee kello kuusi ja olimme siis yli tunnin myöhässä viimeisestä bussista. Ditte tsemppasi, että kävellään takaisin hotellille ja ja laskeskelin mielessä, että matkaa olisi reilusti yli 50 korttelia. 15 korttelin jälkeen luovutimme ja hyppäsimme taksin kyytiin, ja saimme naurukohtauksen, jota kesti melkein koko 15 minuuttisen, ruuhkaan jumiutuneen taksimatkan ajan.

While we were trying to get into Little Italy, once again we found all these nice stores from SoHo that we wanted to stop by and all these beautiful buildings, that I had to take photos off! In some point we decided to just walk back to Broadway and hop on there, but by the time we got on the bus stop it was too late and all the day tours had stop running. So it was a one short bus tour, and again almost 7 hours walking! We started to walk back home but in some point, 50 blocks felt just too much to take on that point and we hopped on taxi after 15 blocks. We laughed like crazy one's almost all the way back home, which was a nice ending for the great, last day in NYC.

Seuraavana aamuna otimme suunnaksi JFK:n aamuviideltä ja koska olimme kentällä hyvissä ajoin, vältimme pahimmat ruuhkat enkä ole ikinä päässyt baggage dropista ja turvatarkastuksesta (röntgeneineen kaikkineen) niin nopeasti läpi kuin nyt! Koneessa jatkoin sujuvasti nukkumista (alkaa luonnistua nyt jo helposti, heti tarjoiluiden jälkeen olen satavarmasti unessa!) ja parin tunnin päästä oltiinkin ihanassa D.C:ssä. <3

New Yorkista tulee ainakin vielä lisää tunnelmakuvia ja tunnen myös velvollisuudekseni jakaa kokemukseni Eatalysta, jotta jokainen NYCissä vieraileva tietää jatkossa, mihin mennä nauttimaan maailman parasta juustoa!

Early next morning we went to JFK and had the easiest and fastest baggage drop and security check (even with an x-ray) ever. On our way to lovely lovely D.C, we slept the whole flight which is starting to get quite easy thing to do, usually it happens right after taking off or after catering. 

I will have some more pictures from New York to show, and I feel like it's my responsibility to spread the word, where you can find the NYC's best cheese so I will do some post from Eataly some day!
